In XSENSOR Technology’s second webinar in the ‘Running Mechanics’ series, we explore how to use plantar pressure mapping, like XSENSOR’s Intelligent Insoles, to measure and assess acceleration in power and strength-based sports.
Acceleration is critical in most sporting activities characterized by high-intensity running and sprinting. But, from a biomechanical perspective, the type of acceleration required by an individual sport in track and field, where linear speed is the primary factor, differs from the necessary acceleration in team sports, where multi-directional speed is dominant.
A deceleration or change of direction component in team sports requires a more taxing central nervous system involvement. With plantar pressure mapping, it is possible to assess the efficacy of acceleration mechanics and the impact of foot strikes and timing in the proper application of force.
